Insurance Options

Tera Naset Nutrition is currently in-network with:

  • Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS)

  • UnitedHealthcare (UHC)

  • Aetna

  • Medicare

If you have a BCBS, UHC or Aetna plan, you can provide your insurance information and we will submit the claim for you. Once processed, the insurance company will provide an Explanation of Benefits (EOB). Many plans cover nutrition counseling at 100%, but others require a copay, coinsurance or payment towards a deductible. If the EOB indicates that you are responsible for any outstanding payment, your card on file will be charged.

Traditional Medicare (with or without a supplement) and Medicare Advantage Plans cover nutrition counseling at 100% for patients with diagnosed diabetes that have a referral from their doctor. Unfortunately, if you do not have diagnosed diabetes, Medicare will not cover nutrition counseling. You are welcome to pay cash, and may find that just one or two visits is enough to get you back on track. Note that if you have a secondary plan through BCBS, UHC or Aetna, you may have coverage through that plan. This only applies to true secondary plans (typically through a current or former employer), not Medicare Supplement or Advantage plans.

If you have an insurance plan other than the ones above, you do have the option to submit the claim to your insurance for potential reimbursement. If you choose this option, we will charge your card on file after the visit and then send you a superbill that you can submit to your insurance. The bill will reflect the rates we charge all insurance plans.

Avoid surprises: Before scheduling, call the number on the back of your insurance card to verify coverage for nutrition counseling. Many plans offer excellent nutrition coverage, but it does vary. Below is a list of questions to ask the customer service representative.

  1. Do I have nutrition counseling coverage on my insurance plan?

  2. Is Tera Naset (NPI 1487076360) in network?

  3. Is diagnosis code Z71.3 (Dietary Counseling & Surveillance) accepted?

  4. Is a medical diagnosis code required (such as diabetes, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, or a BMI code)?

  5. Is a referral from a doctor or primary care provider required?

  6. Will there be a co-pay or co-insurance? Will I have to pay out of pocket until I hit my deductible?

  7. How many visits are covered per year?

  8. Is telehealth (video) nutrition counseling covered?

Self-pay

If you do not have one of the above insurance plans, or you prefer not to use your insurance, you always have the option to self-pay. An initial visit is $125, and follow-ups are $75. An invoice will be sent when the appointment is booked, and payment is due before the appointment begins. We accept all major credit cards as well as HSA and Healthcare FSA funds.
